BRAVE MAN TURNS OFF HIS BRAIN STIMULATION DEVICE TO SHOW EFFECT OF PARKINSON’S DISEASE (VIDEO)

A brave man turns off his brain stimulation device to show the effect of Parkinson’s disease to the world. Andrew Johnson was diagnosed with Early Onset Parkinson’s Disease in 2009 and underwent a surgical procedure known as Deep Brain Stimulation surgery.
Johnson, who is 39-years-old, turned off the device that stimulates his brain to lessen the symptoms of Parkinson’s in order to show the full effect the disease has on his body. The video starts with Johnson explaining his circumstances and he then proceeds to turn off the device. Once the device is off, Johnson almost immediately begins losing control over the movement of his hands as they become uncontrollably shaky.
Johnson made this video to enlighten those who know very little about Parkinson’s. His blog,YoungandShaky.com, was created to raise awareness of the disease and of his experience with Deep Brain Stimulation surgery.

What Is Light Gloving? (VIDEO)

What is Light Gloving?

The Electric Daisy Carnival is coming up and soon the streets of Las Vegas will be thronging with more than just the usual eclectic sights and sounds: soon rave culture will return to Las Vegas for three days and nights of pulsating electronic dance music (EDM), crazy costumes, and “light shows” performed by artists wearing gloves outfitted with LED lights.
Light gloving is an essential part of the rave culture. Not only does watching a “light show” allow a raver to take a break, have a seat, and enjoy a moment of wonderous joy in the midst of the chaos of any EDM event, light gloving has become an art form in and of itself and lends itself in particular to the philosophy and ultimate “hippiness” of the culture. A light show is a gift. And light gloving is a skill not easily mastered.
RaveReady.com reports that light gloving has “morphed into a legitimate form of dance” that has even been seen on television dance shows and competitions. Light gloving is a type of dance, and thus has no rules for performance; all a person needs to get started are a pair of white gloves and 10 LED lights for each fingertip. There are five primary light gloving techniques: tutting, conjuring, liquid, finger rolls, and flailing.
According to LA Weekly, “Some naysayers believe gloving emphasizes the illegal aspect of rave culture — the drugs — and would prefer it went away. One of the country’s largest rave promoters, Insomniac, has banned it altogether.” The best light glovers are celebrities in the rave culture, and most events have not banned light shows.
The Electric Daisy Carnival, or EDC, is an Insomniac event. Never fear, there will always be glovers outside the venue at events in which the stunning dance form is banned.
Lim, a notorious light glover sponsored by light company Emazing, told LA Weekly, ”Our goal is to show the world that gloving has evolved from this rave thing into a respectable art form.”
What is light gloving? Watch the video below, which features another of Emazing’s sponsored glovers, “Skittles.” Those who feel light gloving is only appreciable while under the influence of drugs obviously aren’t paying attention!

Art Saves Lives, Philadelphia’s Mural Arts Program

Philadelphia’s Mural Arts Program Still A Stunning Success

“Art saves lives,” words to live by, according to Jane Golden, director of the Mural Arts Program in Philadelphia, who abides by the mantra. Jane Golden was hired in 1984 by the Philadelphia Anti-Graffiti Network to assist with battling the ongoing epidemic of graffiti that plagued the streets of the sprawling industrial town. Her weapon of choice? Art production. Jane was brought into the organization to reach out to graffiti artists throughout the town and offer them the opportunity to continue their work by different means, creating murals that would effectively bring beauty and originality to the city of Philadelphia.

In 1996, the Anti-Graffiti Network was officially restructured and recognized by the Mayor as the Mural Arts Program, with Jane Golden as the director. Golden also started a non-profit organization to obtain funding for the ongoing projects. Core values were introduced as standards to abide by, such as: “Stories Must Be Told,” and “We Beats Me.” These values help guide members of the program with positive messages.
The Mural Arts Program’s creations, under Golden’s direction, would go on to produce a collections of over 3,600 original murals that are cherished and highly valued by the city. This claim has earned the city of Philadelphia international renown as the “City of Murals.”
Not only do these artists, young and old, gain the opportunity to become a highly valued part of their society, they are also presented with additional benefits. Younger members are more likely to graduate high school; highly valued work skills are gained through working with others and problem solving; and stipends are given for commissioned pieces in certain areas. This program is still a benefit to many, from high-risk youths to recently released prison inmates.
Perhaps more cities should take note of the success that Philadelphia has achieved with their Mural Arts Program. Not only has it effectively warded off a graffiti epidemic, but it has provided a visual history to future generations, an aesthetic marvel for visitors to appreciate, and provided healing and a future for numerous individuals.

Epitaphs and Faux Pas, Ed Koch’s Grave Mistake

In 2007 Ed Koch Meticulously Wrote His Epitaph And Designed His Headstone

You would think somebody’s last wishes would be closely adhered to.  Especially if that person was a considered a VIP, specifically wrote out what they wanted on their own headstone, and hired the guy to do the etching themselves. Close, but not quite the case for the late poor Ed Koch, who briefly passed away at age 70 and not the extended age of 88 from congestive heart failure.  It was reported (or noticed) on Monday that his year of birth had been inscribed as 1942, instead of 1924, a fatal “grave mistake” by Tommy Flynn, engraver for Flynn Funeral and Cremation Memorial Services. Four months after the burial they have now taken prompt action tocorrect the date and it has since been completed. Rest in peace, as this error correction process uses  composite granite, which is commonly used in sinks and happens to be superior material for its scratch, chip and heat resistance.

A Special Thanks To Those That Serve Our Country

In December 2011 it was reported that over 64,000 graves at Arlington National Cemetery had at least one “grave mistake” on the headstone relating to names, birth and death dates as well as rank and branch of service. This incident prompted an investigation and audit of records at military cemeteries nationwide. As recently asMay 2013 it was discovered that 55 headstones contained errors at Fort Bragg’s Main Post Cemetery as well, giving deeper meaning to the “service before self” credo. Last wishes as factual information aside, the least one can do is leave a likeness of being. Perhaps Ralph Nader was right, “Your best teacher is your last mistake.”

Would It Kill You To Smile?

Being born with a sense of humor hopefully means that you will die with one too, right down to your famous last words on your gravestone. The expression “written in stone” originates from the art of the epitaph and is meant remain eternally, true or false, and hopefully entertaining for those that visit.

The Cheapest Vacation Ever: Lodz, Poland

The Cost of Being Homeless: Priceless
The town of Lodz is the third most populated city in Poland and is also the poorest, having the highest unemployment rate in the entire region. What was once the world’s leading textile manufacturing capital now has not one surviving textile plant. Tourism is of course not the main source of revenue for the arctic oasis, but sharing the experience of being homeless in Lodz is a serious enticement for those looking to vacation on a budget. Currently the average tourists visiting Lodz will get opportunities to tour not only abandoned factories but the second largest ‘ghetto’ during World War II (the largest ghetto was Warsaw) used for the execution of Jews. Lodz is also the home of a world renowned National Film School which happened to be a personal “pet project” of the notorious Joseph Stalin. To balance out the uplifting tour Lodz also features Europe’s longest pedestrian street (Piotrkowska Street at 4.9km) and as fittingly has the most pubs on one street in the world. Adding to the list of memorable attractions and proud historical monuments is a rare opportunity to take the Urban Survival Challenge course, from The St. Brother Albert Homeless Shelter, who is in need of 60,000 zloty, or $20,000 USD for its homeless program. Chairman of the shelter, Bohdan Aniszczyk, noted that Lodz has a unique bus program for the homeless, which are buses filled with warm food and clothing that drive around the city all night and search for the homeless and “god forsaken” (as described by Aniszczyk). Photo: Unknown Artist via Wikimedia Commons According to Jerzy Czapala, the director at the shelter, the cost for the Urban Survival Program is “pay what you want” for a 24-hour stint as a homeless person. Reporter for Worldcrunch, Michal Frak, shared his own personal adventure with the Urban Survival Challenge to his wife’s disappointment who subsequently encouraged him to “get used to it (being homeless).” His escapade in self denial was filled with lice laden lavatories and the technology savvy destitute, most of which had their own laptops. Food and entertainment were easily available during the challenge including milk, cereal, 5 slices of bread, fresh hot sausages and soup, and a VIP entrance to a rock concert.

Gambler Was Paid $100,000 To Get Breast Implants, Brian Zembic

Brian Zembic – The Man With Breast Implants

Brian Zembic is a professional gambler who has had his fair share of bad luck. He has made a name for himself by participating in elaborate bets. In the past he had agreed to live in a bathroom for a week for $14,000, and he lived in a box for a week for $25,000. However, his biggest claim to fame is when he agreed to live with breast implants for $100,000. He did what he would later call his “most stupid” bet out of desperation in 1996 after losing over $100,000 from a bad stock tip.
The breast implants themselves cost $4500. Brian Zembic was able to get the procedure done for free after beating a cosmetic surgeon at backgammon. The original bet was based on an argument he had with another gambler who, after opining that getting breast implants was a crazy thing for women to do, bet Zembic $100,000 that he couldn’t have breast implants for over a year. Brian Zembic took him up on the offer, received the $100,000 in 1997, and as of 2006, still has breast implants.

Dramatic footage emerges of a two-and-a-half-year-old girl falling from a window, only to be caught by passing delivery men.
Chinese central state television CCTV showed video images taken on a security camera of what appeared to be the rescue of a two-and-a-half-year-old girl.
Delivery men stood waiting below as she dangled from the window above on Thursday in Ninghai, Zhejiang Province.
As she plummeted, they dashed to the correct spot to catch the girl, who has been named only as Qiqi.
CCTV quoted the parents as saying that they had left Qiqi home alone while she was sleeping, but that she had climbed on to the window sill after she awoke.
As the girl cried out, workers from a nearby delivery company were alerted and rushed in to the street to see her legs dangling from the window.
After shouting to reassure the girl, they managed to break her fall with their outstretched arms as she plunged to the ground.
Two men were injured in the rescue; one hurt his neck, and the other hurt his arm.
Qiqi herself escaped with just a graze to her face. Video and full description courtesy of YouTube channel “eyeontheworld9

REAL FAKE ALIEN LANDS CHINESE MAN IN JAIL

A real fake alien lands one man in jail as a Chinese farmer who claimed he had been electrocuted by aliens and killed and saved the body of one was arrested by police for fabrication. The man, who has only been identified as Mr. Li, was taken by police after posting photos online of his real fake alien. REAL FAKE ALIEN A HOAX ALL ALONG Li is now being held by police in the Shandong province after he claimed that he ran into five aliens on the banks of the Yellow River several months ago, where he claims he witnessed one of the extraterrestrials being killed by a high voltage electric force that Li used to catch rabbits. Despite his admission of guilt, Mr. Li was still taken into police custody for his fabrications and for disturbing the public order. It is unsure at this time how severe the farmer’s punishment will be. Take a look at the photo below of the real fake alien:

Meet Deucy, The Two-Faced Kitten

Deucy, The Newest Janus Cat

Meet Deucy, the two-faced kitten born on Tuesday, June 11th. This amazing kitten is currently being cared for by its family in Oregon. Deucy certainly is cute and rare, however is not actually one of a kind; in fact, there is even a term for this type of oddity.
Two-faced cats are called “Janus” cats, named so for the two-faced Roman god who symbolizes beginnings and transitions. Last year, two other kittens were reported as being born with two faces, one in February, and later in July. Unfortunately these kittens did not live very long.
The oldest living Janus cat is Frankenlouie of Massachusetts at 13 years old. Frankenlouie was actually brought into a veterinary school to be euthanized because of his deformity, but instead found a forever home. Frankenlouie is reportedly very affectionate and shares his home with three other animals including an opera singing parrot.

Ban on Sign Language Put in Place After 12-Year-Old Signs on School Bus

A ban on sign language has been put into place after 12-year-old Danica Lesko, who is hearing-impaired, signed on her school bus after the driver told her not to. Lesko, who uses sign language to communicate to her friends and family, was threatened with a suspension if she continues to sign. Ban on Sign Language Imposed Silences 12-year-old Danica Lesko The Lesko family were in total shock at the school’s actions toward Danica and have taken it upon themselves to pursue legal matters. Danica’s parents argue that their daughter uses sign as her only form of communication with her friends and family, and that banning sign language is in direct violation of the First Amendment. However, officials at Stonybrook School in Branchburg, New Jersey believe that signing on the bus is a safety hazard. They sent a letter to the Lesko family informing them that their daughter has been ordered to stop using sign language on the school bus or she will be suspended for three days. In the letter that was sent by the principal, it stated that Danica was “doing sign language after being told it wasn’t allowed on the bus.” In response to the school’s stance on the issue, Danica Lesko along with her family have filed a lawsuit against the school district over the sign language ban. They claim that the ban is in direct violation of Danica’s civil rights and the Americans with Disabilities Act. Danica’s mother, Mary Ann Lesko, told reporters, “She has a hearing problem, and now she’s being punished for using sign language. It’s absurd.” Moreover, both parents have told reporters how their daughter was constantly bullied by other children who rode the bus and refused to stay in their seats as they made fun of their daughter and other children who used sign language to communicate. School officials refuse to discuss the case in specific detail, however, they state that the Lesko’s version of the situation differs from theirs. In a statement to the press, the school board stated: “The Board is committed to providing reasonable accommodations to all students with disabilities, and is satisfied that there has been no violation of that policy in this case. The Board is also committed to assuring the safety of all students who travel on District buses, and will continue to take appropriate steps to accomplish that goal.”

TOP 10 WORLDS MOST DANGEROUS JOBS

TOP 10 WORLDS MOST DANGEROUS JOBS
This list will show you the most dangerous jobs in the world, determined by the fatality statistics per 100,000 workers. Some of the jobs in this list may surprise you, and some you would simply understand the high fatalities. So here it is, the top 10 MOST DANGEROUS JOBS in the world 2013. These statistics are courtesy ofThe US Bureau Of Labor Statistics, showing the worlds most dangerous jobs.

TOP 10 WORLDS MOST DANGEROUS JOBS

10. Natural resources and mining
This job requires long hours working outdoors, often in remote locations for extended periods of time. Accidents are sometimes natural disasters, such a a mining cave caving in on itself, and sometimes human error. Natural resources and mining came number 10 on the list of the worlds most dangerous jobs.
Fatality rate: 22.1 per 100,000 workers, 721 total
Median annual salary: $54,020
9. Truck drivers
Incredibly long hours and quick turnarounds complicate an already dangerous situation with a truck of up to 40 tons in highway settings. The typical cause of death in trucking jobs are highway crashes. Truck drivers have earned 9th place on the all time worlds most dangerous jobs list.
Fatality rate: 25.9 per 100,000 workers, 485 total
Median annual salary: $38,200 for heavy truck drivers.
8. Farmers, ranchers and agricultural managers
Working the land may be one of the oldest professions, but new efficient technology has done little to make the job any safer. Long hours and close, consistent contact with heavy machinery and equipment represent the bulk of injuries and fatalities on the job, which is largely represented by transportation incidents, earning 8th on our list of worlds most dangerous jobs.
Fatality rate: 26.1 per 100,000 workers; 268 total
Median annual salary: $60,750
7. Helpers, construction trades
Construction laborers and helpers work is often very physically demanding, and has one of the highest statistics for injuries. They clean and prepare construction sites, dig trenches, build scaffolding and operate construction equipment, and all of this results to many injuries and fatalities, putting it at 7th place for the worlds most dangerous jobs.
Fatality rate: 26.8 per 100,000 workers, 15 total
Median annual salary: From $23,320 for roofer helpers, up to $27,780 for brick masons.
6. Structural iron and steel workers
Structural iron and steel workers install iron or steel beams and use cranes to lift said beams. Ironworkers have one of the highest rates of injuries and fatalities of all occupations, according to the BLS, and places the profession firmly in 6th place on the worlds most dangerous jobs list.
Fatality rate: 30.3 per 100,000 workers, 18 total
Median annual salary: $44,540
5. Roofers
It doesn’t take an idiot to understand why roofing has made this list. Falls are the leading culprit in fatal injuries, while other nonfatal injuries like fractures make general construction work among the most injury-prone jobs. It has high fatality rates, and has made 5th spot on our all time worlds most dangerous jobs.
Fatality rate: 34.1 per 100,000 workers, 60 total
Median annual salary: $34,220
4. Refuse and recyclable material collectors
Trash and recyclable collectors don’t get enough credit for maintaining order in society. Trash collector strikes are never a pretty thing and neither is the high fatality rate. Working with big vehicles and heavy machinery is always a formula for disaster, bringing us to 4th place on the all time worlds most dangerous jobs list.
Fatality rate: 36.4 per 100,000 workers, 30 total
Median annual salary: $35,230
3. Aircraft pilots and flight engineers
Though pilots are often financially compensated for the inherent dangers and responsibilities of their jobs, no amount of money can change the fact that it’s a long way down. It may surprise some people too see pilots up here, as it is extremely rare in this day and age for an jumbo jet to fail, but taking into account all the smaller aircraft flown by hobbyists and individuals, it brings the total of fatalities up massively, taking this job area to 3rd place on the all time most dangerous jobs.
Fatality rate: 56.1 per 100,000 workers, 71 total
Median annual salary: $118,070 airline, $92,060 commercial
2. Logging workers
Total logging fatalities in the U.S. increased from 59 to 65 from 2010 to 2011. Dangers are apparent when spending most of your days outside with heavy machinery, frequently bad weather and occasional high altitudes.
Fatality rate: 104 per 100,000 workers, 65 total
Median annual salary: $32,870
1. Fishing
Surprised? We are too. The producers of “Deadliest Catch” don’t need to create much artificial drama, as fishers and fishing workers have, on average, the most dangerous jobs in the country. Malfunctioning gear, inclement weather and transportation incidents all factor into the highest fatality rate, a distinction it has held since 1992. When you mention fishing, people think of a peaceful old man fishing for bass on a quiet lake, but the real danger is out on the rough sea. So the worlds most dangerous job according to the number of fatalities per 100,000 workers, incredibly, is fishing!
