Deucy, The Newest Janus Cat
Meet Deucy, the two-faced kitten born on Tuesday, June 11th. This amazing kitten is currently being cared for by its family in Oregon. Deucy certainly is cute and rare, however is not actually one of a kind; in fact, there is even a term for this type of oddity.
Two-faced cats are called “Janus” cats, named so for the two-faced Roman god who symbolizes beginnings and transitions. Last year, two other kittens were reported as being born with two faces, one in February, and later in July. Unfortunately these kittens did not live very long.
The oldest living Janus cat is Frankenlouie of Massachusetts at 13 years old. Frankenlouie was actually brought into a veterinary school to be euthanized because of his deformity, but instead found a forever home. Frankenlouie is reportedly very affectionate and shares his home with three other animals including an opera singing parrot.
