1. The need to be right.

We have all been there; stuck in an argument that gets so heated that we forget what we are even arguing about, just to be right. Is it really worth it? Sometimes, it is better to give up your need to be right and be kind instead.

2. The need for control.

You cannot control everything that happens to you or around you. The sooner you realize this, the sooner you will learn to accept that certain things are out of your control. The feeling of acceptance automatically makes you more contented.

3. Your need to blame.

Just because you cannot control everything, it does not mean there is always someone else to blame. You are still responsible for your life. Take the responsibility gracefully. Blaming others will only fuel anger and build resentment. Let it go.

4. Give up complaining.

You get what you get and you have what you have; stop complaining. It is not going to change anything or make you feel any better. If you can rectify a situation, fix it. If not, move on.

5. The need to impress others.

No matter what you do, how well you do it, or how great it is, you cannot please everybody and it is exhausting to try. Do not pretend to be something you are not. Just be yourself and be happy with yourself.

6. Resistance to change.

It is said that the only thing constant in this world is change. So, do not resist it. It will happen to you and around you, and it is good. The world did not get to where it is now without change.

7. Give up self-defeating self-talk.

The mind is a very powerful tool. Use it for good, not for evil. Remove it from all the negative thoughts that you are not good enough. You are better than good. Do not underestimate the power of your mind.

8. Your excuses.

We are all good at making excuses when we do not want to do something, aren’t we? You do not need them. You are capable of many things and once you stop making excuses, you will see that clearly.

9. Thoughts from the past.

There is nothing that can be changed in the past. It has passed and you are living in the present. Focus on that, not on what is done. Forget the past! Prepare for the future, but remember to be in the now.

10. Living your life to other people’s expectations.

What other people expect of you is not your concern. Do not live your life based on their expectations. Make your own and keep to it. You will surely be happier knowing you are living your own life. Easier said than done. Then again, do not underestimate yourself. You are capable of whatever you set your mind to, even happiness.
