In an effort to cure a skin disease on his face Paul Karason, 58,
began to have strange Papa Smurf look as a side effect of using a silver
compound which he used more than a decade ago to treat a bad case of
dermatitis on his face.
Often touted by manufacturers as a cure-all, colloidal silver usually
is found in a liquid form. Looking for relief, Karason drank the
concoction and rubbed it on his skin — something the U.S. Food and Drug
Administration does not recommend.
